Inclusive and accessible
Non-specialist disabled facilities
Although we don’t promote ourselves as having cottages specifically designed for guests with disabilities or special needs, we appreciate there are many different forms of disability and recognise that non-specialist facilities are sometimes preferred. We therefore do our best to be as accessible and inclusive as possible.
Our cottages are tucked right beside the farmyard where the farm activities are primarily based. Being on one level, guests with restricted mobility can enjoy holidaying in Fox Den, and we already take pets so assistant dogs would be equally welcome.
We are happy to discuss any special requirements you may have and are willing to make changes wherever possible. For example, we can provide access to your cottage prior to 3pm on your day of arrival to refrigerate medicine such as insulin, or help carry your heavier items of luggage from and to your car.
If ultimately we can’t meet your specific needs at Higher Trevinnick, as members of Visit Cornwall we can refer you to similar accommodation providers perhaps better equipped to accommodate disabled guests.
Owl Barn accessibility
This cottage has reversed level accommodation on two floors, the upstairs of which is accessed by a central stair well.
Parking is immediately outside the main stable door entrance to the cottage on a gentle slope.
There is a very large, rounded granite step (3 inches to 6 inches high according to the slope) and a further straight granite step (4 inches high) to the front door, and a further 2 inch high metal threshold plate into the property.
The stable door entrance leads into a spacious hall with frosted glass panelling floor to ceiling for good natural light.
On the ground floor there is a large double bedroom immediately to the left and a flight of 13 stairs directly opposite the entrance door. To the right the hall leads to an airing cupboard, bathroom and twin bedded room.
All doorways are standard width and there is plenty of space to walk comfortably through the hall, between beds and bedroom furniture, and around the bathroom which comprises wash basin, WC and full size bath with shower over.
The staircase has a wooden banister rail to the left (ascending) and a wooden stair-gate at the top. It leads into a spacious open plan living area with lounge to the right and kitchen/diner to the left.
A stable door with a 2 inch threshold and further 6 inch step down leads from the kitchen/diner out to the private and fully enclosed patio area and sloping grassed garden which borders the adjoining agricultural field and barn.
The light cream painted walls throughout this cottage contrast well with the carpets, and there are many external windows providing a strong source of natural light – especially upstairs to take full advantage of the spectacular countryside views.
Fox Den accessibility
This cottage is single storey throughout.
Flat gravel parking is just outside and the front door to the cottage accessible via a single, slightly raised step down to a short level path from the designated parking area.
There is a small 3 inch high UPVC threshold plate through a glass-panelled door into the spacious porch with full width window overlooking the parking area giving good natural light.
A stable door with small inset glass panel leads from the porch with built-in wooden cupboard into a spacious kitchen/diner.
A standard width doorway leads from the kitchen/diner into the hall from which you access a bathroom to the left comprising a wash basin, WC and full size corner bath.
The lounge is to the immediate right and just along the hall to the right is the master bedroom with a built-in wardrobe and en-suite comprising WC, wash basin and double-width shower cubicle.
Immediately opposite the kitchen/diner is the single bedroom and to the left, after the bathroom, the hall narrows towards the twin bedded room with built-in wardrobe.
With the exception of the twin bedded room which is slightly narrower, all doorways are standard width with a shallow wooden threshold plate. There is plenty of space to walk comfortably through the hall, between beds and bedroom furniture, and around the bathroom, kitchen/diner and porch.
The private garden is accessible from the parking area or a flat level path around one side of the property, and it borders the adjoining agricultural field and barn.
The light cream painted walls throughout this cottage contrast well with the carpets and tiles, and there are numerous external windows providing a strong source of natural light throughout the cottage, to take full advantage of the spectacular countryside views.
